1 - The Trip

Most of you know (and some are probably fed up of hearing) that Fred, Tala and I are heading off to Canada for four months at the end of March. The plan is to travel around in an RV (mobile home) for a month and a half and then hire a car to do as many canoe expeditions as we possibly can.
The RV is already booked and was pretty inexpensive at less than €2000 for the duration of six weeks. It is impossible to get anything as cheap in
Europe. It is a massive 7.5 metres long and, unfortunately, I will have to drive the beast too! We want to visit Niagara Falls so that will probably be our first destination before heading back up north to Algonquin Park where we will arrange and plan our canoe routes.
In
Algonquin Park we will purchase wilderness permits and inform the outfitters of where we plan to paddle and camp. This is purely for safety purposes since the area is miles from civilization, the water will be extremely cold (having recently thawed) and there are likely to be encounters with wild animals (including BEARS, the subject of my recent paranoid fixation!) We will repeat this process at Killarney and Temagami provincial parks and then head off on a road trip in the RV to wherever we fancy.
In the middle of May we will exchange the RV for a car and head back to Algonquin to start the first of many canoe trips for which we will have already planned.
I hope to blog the entire trip and travelling in the RV will afford time to update frequently but once we start canoeing, I’ll only be able to update between trips, which could be every two to three weeks.
